Signed Church Services
Information on recent signed services from Pat Bougeard:
Thursday 21st December 2006.
Rev. Robert Sanday, Rev Mark Bond and myself invited people to come along to our first Christmas signed service today at St Brealde's church at 7pm. It was a lovely service that the deaf community and several others came to and we sang/signed lots of the traditional Christmas carols and Rev Sanday told us all the Christmas story.
In the middle of the service we then listened to him ask us "Why do we have Christmas Cracker's ?". "what do the symbolise?". I think that we all learnt something new about the different things we have in crackers and what they symbolise at Christmas. After a lovely service in the church we all walked to the church hall where we enjoyed Warm mince Pies and Mulled Wine. Fantastic!!! Thank you to Rev Mark Bond, Rev Sanday and the ladies for organising the food and wine, it was a great evening of fun and laughter and worship. I look forward to next years Christmas service!
Sunday 24th December 2006.
At Georgetown church today a few of us enjoyed a lovely Christmas signed service, which was led by Rev David coote, Martin Delap and Marcia Lee and myself. It went very well until i forgot to how to sign the Lord's Prayer! I think it must be the anesthetic which has made my memory disappear!
Several members of the deaf community came to share the service which was really great.
Many thanks to Marcia, martin and David for supporting me and for inviting us all to Georgetown. We all went into the hall after for coffee and biscuits and for a chat!
New information for 2007.
I want to say a big thank you for all of those people who have come to the services over the last year and who continue to support us when Rev Sanday comes over from Winchester. I would like to extend the invitaion to anyone who would like to come to any services in 2007 either at St Brealde's or at Georgetown, you are all welcome. The services are all signed jointly by Rev Sanday and myself. I would like to say thank you to Rev Sanday, Rev Mark Bond and everyone who is involved in organising the services. I am hoping to have three signed services at St Brelade's and three at Georgetown next year so once i know dates and information i will be putting them on the Jersey Deaf Children's and Jersey Deaf adult's Society web-sites.
